Groups & Training plans

The Y’Speedos Swim Club organizes its swimmers into distinct training groups, each with tailored plans designed to enhance their skills and performance at different stages of development.

Guppies

  • Focus:

    Learning basic swimming techniques and developing a feel for the water.

  • Training:

    3 sessions per week (40 min to 1 hour), swimming 750-2000m.

  • Goals:

    Technique in all strokes, aerobic endurance, and basic racing skills.

Minnows

  • Focus:

    Improving technique and introducing race skills (e.g., turns, starts).

  • Training:

    5 pool sessions per week (1¼ to 1½ hours), swimming 2000-3000m.

  • Goals:

    Stroke refinement, aerobic endurance, speed development, and relay takeovers.

Snapper

  • Focus:

    Further refining technique and enhancing endurance and speed.

  • Training:

    5 pool sessions per week (1¼ to 1½ hours), swimming 2000-3500m.

  • Goals:

    Perfecting stroke technique, racing strategies, and building aerobic capacity.

Piranhas

  • Focus:

    Maintaining technique while increasing strength and conditioning.

  • Training:

    6-9 pool sessions per week (1½ to 2 hours), swimming 4000-6000m.

  • Goals:

    Racing skills, advanced race strategies, and introducing interval training.

Killer Sharks

  • Focus:

    Specialization in strokes and distances with high-volume training.

  • Training:

    7-10 pool sessions per week (1½ to 2 hours), swimming 4000-8000m.

  • Goals:

    Advanced stroke and skill development, peak performance, and race tapering.

Masters Group

  • For former swimmers and those who have discovered a new love for the sport of swimming.
